CASE REPORT Massive Fatal Pulmonary Emboli with Fibrinolytic Therapy
IN 1-2% of patients with deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary emboli develop despite therapy with heparin.' Episodes of DVT successfully treated with anticoagulant therapy may still result in venous valvular incompetence and lead to postphlebitic syndromes characterized by ulceration, varicosities and edema. Studies of thrombolytic agents suggest that early use of these drugs for extensive ven...

increased alveolar pressure in the fluid-filled lung. 1 0 However, in our patient, the shift was noted at a time when the lung was not filled with fluid. It appears likely that the perfusion shift we observed was a response to regional alveolar hypoxia, related to the postiavage decrement in ventilation. 1 3 ' 1 4 Sequential ventilation-perfusion scintiphotographic studies also were useful in d...
متن کاملPulmonary Artery Dissection: A Fatal Complication of Pulmonary Hypertension
Pulmonary artery dissection is extremely rare but it is a really life-threatening condition when it happens. Most patients die suddenly from major bleeding or tamponade caused by direct rupture into mediastinum or retrograde into the pericardial sac. What we are reporting is a rare case of a 46-year-old female patient whose pulmonary artery dissection involves both the pulmonary valve and right...
متن کاملMassive pulmonary emboli diagnosed and followed in progress by lung imaging and radionuclide pulmonary angiography.
A dramatic case of occlusion of the right pulmonary artery is presented. The diagnosis was clearly established by means of a lung scan and a radionuclide pulmonary angiogram. The entire course of the disease process was followed by radionuclide studies with a gradual but persistent return to normal. Due to the preciseness of the evidence presented, contrast angiography was not.thought necessary.
